My name is Dave Kingston and I am a commercial airline captain with Canada’s 2nd largest airline (WestJet). I am married and have just celebrated 24 years with the same wonderful lady. We have a 21 year old son.
My passion for photography began many years ago when I graduated from a Kodak 110 to a fully manual Russian Zenith SLR that my parents bought for me while on vacation. I loved to experiment with that camera and it was for this camera that I bought my first set of Cokin filters, who remembers the 8 point star filter? Later I upgraded to a Minolta Maxxum XSi and my first telezoom lens, a 70-210mm. Not long after this our son was born and photography took a back seat to career building and child raising.
For Christmas 2003 the spark was re-ignited when my wife bought us a compact Canon Powershot S50 digital camera (our first one). I enjoyed the “digital experience” so much that I knew I had to take it further. Then for Christmas 2006 I got a Nikon D70s with the 18-70 mm kit lens and a Sigma 70-300 mm and my love affair with Nikon began.
I currently shoot with with a Nikon kit comprised of a D600 & D300 (my old stalwart now donated to my wife) and an assortment of lenses including a Nikon 18-200 mm as my carry around lens, a 70-200 mm 2.8 and my latest acquisition a Tokina 11-16 mm 2.8 for landscapes. My flight bag camera (the one I carry at work) is a Canon G11 which I love for it's compactness, versatility and picture quality.
My wife and I love to travel and our jobs and the travel benefits that go along with our jobs enable us to do more and more travelling now that our son is more self sufficient. We love Hawaii and in particular Maui. We travel there each spring to observe and photograph the Humpback Whales. There are many other places on our bucket list including, Africa, Europe especially Greece, Australia and New Zealand.
